How GreyB Helped the Client Maximize Wi-Fi 6 Patents’ Value by Showing Overlap with Wi-Fi 7

How GreyB Maximized the Value of Existing Wi Fi Patents in Clients' Portfolio

Value Delivered

GreyB’s analysis enabled the client to determine whether their existing Wi-Fi 6 patents remain relevant in the transition to Wi-Fi 7. This gave the client confidence that their patents can still generate value under the new standard.

Problem Solved

The client sought to expand their Wi-Fi 7 portfolio; they needed clarity on whether their Wi-Fi 6 patents remained applicable to the new standard. Traditional keyword-based reviews were insufficient due to differences in terminology and structural changes between HE and EHT specifications.

The client also wanted to understand whether any potential overlap resulted from legacy HE capabilities preserved in Wi-Fi 7, or from the new EHT-specific enhancements that define the next-generation framework.

Solutions Offered

GreyB’s Wi-Fi experts conducted a structured analysis to clearly assess the relevance of the client’s Wi-Fi 6 patents in the Wi-Fi 7 era. The team checked which patents still map to Wi-Fi 7. It distinguished whether overlap came from backward-compatible HE features or newly added EHT features. This helped the client clearly understand which patents continue to hold value and why.

During the review of Wi-Fi 6 patent USXXXXX196B2, which originally aligned with the HE-LTF feature in IEEE 802.11ax-2021, GreyB examined the newly introduced EHT-LTF content in IEEE 802.11be-2024. The comparison revealed that the core technical concepts, symbol determination, stream-based logic, and subcarrier allocation, were preserved. This confirms that the patent directly maps to next-generation features, thereby establishing it as a high-value asset.
